What Does the Word LOIN in the Bible mean?
Reading in the Bible one come across the word “loin.” What is the meaning of this word as used in the Bible.  A common usage of the word is in regards to cuts of meat.  It is often referred to section of meat below the rib cage. There the word loin is mentioned in the Bible 63  times.   

There are basically three meanings in the Bible for the word “loin.”  One: The area just a little above the hips and just a little below the hips.   “And Jacob rent his clothes, and put sackcloth upon his loins,…”   Genesis 37:34   Two: Children and posterity. “…  And God said unto him, I am God Almighty: be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a company of nations shall be of thee, and kings shall come out…”  Genesis 35:11   Three: A metaphor for strength, courage, and righteousness.   “Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able having your loins girt about with truth…”  Ephesians 6:13    “ righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins,… and faithfulness the girdle of his reins….”   Isaiah 11:5
