Yesterday we were at the Manti temple doing our assignments. My first assignment was at the Baptistery. One of the activities that occurs in the the temple is baptisms for the dead. Baptism for the dead are done by proxies for and in behalf of a dead relative who was not baptized before he died. One family comes every week and performs these ordinance. They are all dressed in white jumpers before they enter the font. Before the baptisms start, a short devotional is held. One of the sisters was asked to bear her testimony. She started out by saying, "I would like to bear my testimony." Her father told her not to start a testimony that way. I had a short discussion with him after.
Most of the youth and some adults bear a testimony that goes something like this. "I would like to bear my testimony. I know the church is true. I love my mom and dad......" and ends, "In the name of Jesus Christ, amen." A few other words are added to that.
A few thoughts came to me regarding this discussion. One mighy start a testimony by: "I am delighted to tell you that I know the Savior lives...." "It is my pleasure to testify to you that the Savior lives...." etc.
