Miracles at Capernaum

Jesus had come down from the mountain as recorded in the 8th chapter of Matthew and blessed the people there with miracles. He healed the leper. At Capernaum, He healed the centurion's servant at home with was palsy. He went to Peter's home and healed his wife's mother who laid sick with fever. In the evening he cast out evil spirits. Later they entered a ship where He calmed the Tempest. He came to the country of Gergesenes, and met two men coming out of the tombs who were possed with devils. He commanded them to leave and they entered to bodies of swine and they stampeded down a steep slope where they downed in the sea.

What is the significance of the of this incident. Jewish people would not be eating the flesh of pigs. They may have been raising the pigs for the Gentile Market. They may belonged to the gentile farmers that would be there. Irregardless the herders went back to the village and reported the loss of the pigs. All the people came back and got Jesus to leave.

Joseph Smith and the Saints run into problems that had similar results. For various reasons, their neighbors neighbors forced the Mormons to leave.

It may have something to do with where their hearts are. Their heart is on material things.
